The 26th annual Haltech World Cup Finals Import vs. Domestic presented by Wiseco took place at Maryland International Raceway on November 2-6, 2022.
The event featured Import vs. Domestic Drag Racing, a huge Vendor Midway, and more! This year was a record setting event is busting at the seams with over 40,000 fans in attendance selling out completely, and there was no other event like it! The WCF event breaks more class records than any event due to Jason Miller’s legendary track prep and unparalleled cool and dry atmospheric conditions that only exist this time of year! However, the weather was rather different this year, bring 70*+ temperatures and 2000ft DA, records were still set. This event drew 400 Heads-Up racers from over 10 different countries competing for over $180,000 in eleven different classes of competition: Mickey Thompson Tires – Outlaw vs Extreme, Atomizer Fuel Systems – Renegade vs Modified, Precision Turbo & Engine – X275 vs Hot Rod, McLeod Racing – Warriors vs Tres Cuarto, JPC Racing – Street Fighter, Faster Motorsports – Wild Street, Grannas Racing – Stick Shift, Real Street Performance – Super Street, Driveshaft Shop – Mean Street, Competition Clutch – All Motor and Platinum General Services – Pro Street Bike.
Team VMS showed up and showed out in the Super Street class! There were nearly 50 cars in the class, and VMS was able to grab the #5 Qualifying spot on a brand new, completely untested combination for the team consisting of a Procharger D1X supercharger and new billet Frankenstein Engine Dynamics Predator intake manifold. The team had only a few runs to dial in this new combination during qualifying working hard to keep the front end down as it was going into huge power wheelies, then going into eliminations where they round robin-ed quickly late into Sunday night. Sam was deadly on the tree all weekend going rounds. Team VMS made a critical decision going into eliminations Round #3, where they learned right before the burnout box they had a broken bye run, so they quickly switched tunes to see if the car/track could handle some more aggressive actions without putting the car back into giant wheel stands. She ran her new personal best of a 7.770 at 177mph. That paid off huge for the team, as Sam went on and won the Semi-Final round against Charlie Barnes (Previously 2021 World Cup Super Street Champion/Winner) on a hole shot with a .014RT. The Finals against Barone was a nail biter, and Moore’s car did a power wheelie that lasted a bit too long, Barone grabbed his scramble button and burned down his car at the traps to grab the win. It was a great race/event where the teams expectations were far surpassed!
