Overview:
The ORIGINAL goal of this Coyote Mustang was simple. We wanted to showcase our Coyote capabilities to our customers as well as prove our performance packages via real race results. We also want to prove that the Roush TVS2300 was fully capable of propelling a full weight Coyote Mustang into the 9s consistently at the track, all while maintaining the overall manners, reliability and street-ability of a typical factory Mustang for the daily driver. We also raced it in the NMRA Series Roush Super Stang (Index Class) and finished the 2018 Season in the Top 10!
After achieving our previous goals and enjoying the car over the years, we decided to take the car to a more serious level for 2019 and pursue another NMRA Series with it racing in a Heads Up class…to make things more interesting, Sam wanted to maintain FULL street-ability of the car…so in Winter of 2019 we started the build and COMPLETE overhaul of this Mustang targeting the NMRA Limited Street (Heads Up) Class and all of its rules, all while maintaining all of the original “stock” functions/features and still driving it around on the street, to the Woodward Dream Cruise and all. The new goal of this car is to prove that we can build a fully capable street car that can be competitive on a professional level racing at the track…or you could say, build a highly competitive winning race car that you can comfortably drive on the street…

During testing at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL, the intercooler pump was starting to fail, leading to extremely high manifold air temps. Dan & Sam worked with what they had at the track in an effort to get the pump to work and make it live through the weekend. After some frustration and ingenuity, they were able to get the pump to work for short periods of time, enough to get down the track at “reasonable” MAT temperature for the weekend. Battling temps, they were able to put down a qualifying pass of 8.85 at 153+ mph, landing her in the #4 qualifying spot. “We knew the car had more potential if we could keep the temps down, but with the extreme heat/weather, and lack of intercooler flow, we decided to focus on keeping it safe and consistent.”
On Saturday night for Round #1 of eliminations, Samantha was paired up with the #5 qualifier Larry Starost in his Green 2013 Turbocharged Coyote. The pair lined up and Sam took the win with an 8.84 at 154+ mph pass.
Sunday morning brought the 2nd round of eliminations (Semi-Finals) where she lined up with the #1 qualifier and 2018 LS Champion, Mike Ciborowski’s and his Red 2014 Coyote. Samantha confidently raced her race, clicking off a 8.86 at 153mph trusting her team and the car, taking the win!
Now it was time for the Finals! And for the first time in NMRA history, it was to be an ALL FEMALE final #4 vs #3 qualifier (#2 ranked in points) Sondra Leslie’s White Foxbody Mustang with a Vortech Supercharged Coyote under the hood. The two quickly “put them in the beams”, and although Sondra got the jump, Samantha had the power and drove around here clicking a 8.87 at 153mph taking the race win and her FIRST ever class win at a professional level!
Team VMS Wins Roll Racing class at 2019 Streetcar Shakedown
Team VMS wins 2 years in a row!
Sam’s 2014 Mustang GT brings home the win for Team VMS in the Roll Racing class keeping the title at “home” with Team VMS for the second straight year win for the Team! Team VMS Paul’s Turbo ’98 Cobra brought home the crown last year at the event, not only for Roll Racing but also the Street King class.
For this years event, we decided to bring one of our 1/4 mile dig racing cars out to the event to see how it does from a “Roll” and we were thrilled with the results! The car dominated the field with the top MPH throughout the event and went through the rounds to capture the win, racing some very well known fast “roll racers”. Battling belt issues, the team fought their way through the field, even having to do a quick emergency belt change between rounds just in time to make the call!
Previous (2017) News
We are very proud of what this car has accomplished and can’t wait to improve it even more, as we believe we can increase the spark advance and some other tweaks to the car to get it to run high 9.5s. We did take the car on the scale here at this event, and with the driver and a half tank of gas in the car, the car weighed right at 3940lbs. Thats right, a FULL WEIGHT street car. We recently received a call from a Roush Representative who confirmed that we broke the Roush TVS2300 record for 2011-2014 Coyote Mustangs.
This Mustang simply has a forged lower end, stock Roush TVS 2300 (no porting or housing upgrades), E85, Kooks Headers, and our custom Vector Motorsports Tuning. This coyote has STOCK heads, stock cams, stock displacement, stock 6R80 transmission, stock converter, stock rear end, etc. This car is only on 15 lbs of boost and makes about 700 or less on our Mustang Dynamometer. 9.7s in a 3940 lbs car is pretty stout!
